Our story

Bakhuis Specialty Coffee was born between two cultures — and two ways of living.

On Curaçao, life moves at its own rhythm. Days unfold slowly, conversations linger, and stress rarely gets the final word. People take time for each other. They take time for themselves. Happiness isn’t rushed — it’s lived.

In the Netherlands, the pace is different. Things move fast. Goals are set, plans are made, and work gets done. Efficiency and progress are deeply ingrained, but often at the cost of stillness. There’s little room to pause, breathe, or simply be present.

Having lived and worked within both worlds, I felt the tension — and the opportunity. What if we didn’t have to choose between slowing down and getting things done? What if productivity and presence could exist side by side?

That question became the foundation of Bakhuis Specialty Coffee.

Our coffee represents the middle ground: the Dutch drive to move forward, combined with the Curaçaoan ease of taking life as it comes. A reminder that you can be focused without being rushed. Ambitious without being stressed. Productive without losing yourself.
